What is a Fiction Reading journal?

The first fiction reading journal I used wasn't really anything special. I had heard of the idea from someone online and thought that would be a great way to keep track of the books I had read and remind me about the stories, months or years down the track. It has come in handy when a third book comes out and I really want to read it, but it was a while ago since I read the first. I write my own opinions in it, so when I read it back to myself it normally brings me back to that time. I know some people that have their fiction reading journals online now, but I still like to have a print copy of these things.

What goes in to a fiction reading journal?
It is a personal choice what people want in their journal but there are some fairly standard conventions in the ones that I have seen. There is always the basic book information. Some form of rating system, then reflection and thoughts. Three major components always presented in a unique way. Sometimes there are graphics on the page, sometimes there are additional questions or activities. Whatever is in the journal, it all centres around putting your thoughts on the page.
How do you fill in a fiction reading journal?
I find that I like to get the basics in the journal when I first start reading a book. This way, I remember to put the start date onto the page. Then after I have finished I fill out the rest. Because it is a personal journal, it is rare that anyone else will see it, so what I choose to write is free rain. When good reads reminds me that I was going to read a certain book I can go back to the journal and check if I have something written down for it already. I know that reviews are really important to authors, so I try to put a few up when I can.
Who can use a fiction reading journal?
Anyone at any age can use a fiction reading journal. This is your personal thoughts and feelings about something that you have read and it is your choice whether or not you share what you have written. If you do attend a book club, when bringing a reading journal along can help you trigger what you thought of when you finished reading the book they are talking about.
Where are they available?
The recent fiction reading journals that I have purchased have been from amazon and from some reading groups online.
The enjoyment that I have experienced completing fiction book Journals in the past is exactly why I was interested in creating something a little special for the Otherworldly Emergence Speculative Fiction Novella Series. As a team, all of the participants in the series (known as the squires) have created a unique fiction reading journal that is specifically focussed on the 13 novellas in the series. This is something that I hope people will enjoy.
There will be more information coming out as the series gets closer to completion.
Have you ever used a fiction reading journal? Are you excited to see a unique series focussed reading journal? (It is like a literary behind the scenes).
