Pete Mitchell IBF Minisode

Who would have thought you could incorporate a beer can into a raffle? Pete made sure that he published his collection of short stories 'Read my shorts' before the Indie Author Book Fair so that he could bring it along to the event. Small items from within the short stories were culminated into a raffle that he utilised on the day as an incentive to sign up for his email. I thought it was brilliant. The excerpt that I read for the minisode was one of his tales from this series and I hope that he makes another one for next year.

Who is Pete?

Pete Mitchell is a Western Australian writer whose fiction blends emotional depth with sharp observation and a darkly comic edge. His Debut novel, 'Darwin's Wake', explores identity, loss, and reinvention, while short fiction ranges from speculative satire to tender suburban portraits.

In 2025, Pete won the Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival Flash Fiction Competition, adding to a growing list of accolades that recognise his versatility and narrative precision.

His short fiction collection 'Read My Shorts' features 38 standout stories such as No Second Chances, Bobby's Jumper an Beware the Golden Hamster, each showcasing his flair for distinctive voice and resonant themes - spanning homelessness, speculative politics, dark humour and suburban secrets. An accompanying adult colouring book is scheduled for release in late 2026.
