Owning your list is important. You may likely have already heard this ad nauseum if you are in the small business world, but it is true. I lost access to Meta before Christmas for almost two weeks and I couldn't do anything about it. I was fortunate enough to have the pages reinstated, but I lost so many contacts at that time that I don't really know what the cost of it was. Because I am only a fledgeling company with limited items for sale, it wasn't immediately noticeable. But if I was reliant on sales...

Other than the obvious social media changes over time, there are other benefits to supporting businesses through subscription.
Curated messaging
When people take the time to send a newsletter to a subscriber they aren't limited to the social media platform restrictions. They may have multiple messages to send through to the readers and want to put it all together in one spot like my email. When I send my email 'This mindful world' I use it as a summary for everything that has been going on with the business. I advise people that if they want more, they can go to the website. But they have the basics all in 1 place.
Special Deals
There are small businesses that have special deals for subscribers. That means that they can access more as members that you would otherwise. This is a bit of a double edged sword because it can word amazingly well, but it also might scare people away.
Building Connection
There are people that send emails on a daily basis. This helps build a connection with the reader. You really get to know them and open the doors to communications channels that you wouldn't have on other means. Generally you will be advised on the welcome email what the frequency is for the newsletters
Inbox reminders
I have found that even though I follow many of people on socials, I don't really feel like I know them. When I get and email in my inbox it is like a reminder of why I subbed in the first place. They will have a tagline or email starter that I remember. If they have a deal then I can flag it to come back to later if it is inconvenient when it comes in.
Opportunities to Help
At the end of most emails there is a link back to their site and if there are any sales strategies in play they will normally be mentioned again at the end. For us it is the link back to the site.
If you have thought of starting up your worn email, maybe April is the time to Hop to it.
