I am returned this day to answer your queries. Although there have been many, I will only answer questions three.
Your patience and understanding will be rewarded in well-considered responses. The demands on my time are high and the answers I provide will sate the most curious mind.

Can Mortals Enter the void?
A mortal has a delicate essence/inner being/soul, however it is referred. The void is comprised of the energy of the universe including the detritus left behind when a soul has completed the cycle of elutriation (process of washing them clean). Mortals can enter the void for a short time. But they were not designed to withstand the rigours within the void.
The changes will be subtle at first. The energy of the universe will start to fuse within the mortal, altering their essence. This will sometimes enhance a mortal's capacity, and oft times it will diminish them. Mortals are discouraged from testing themselves.

How is a new reaper created?
Death does not share his methods for selecting new reapers, or the process of transforming them.

Why is there a need for a link between Reapers and Death?
Death is more powerful than all of the reapers combined. As civilisations grew and worlds expanded, his responsibilities multiplied exponentially. Reapers were summoned to assist in his tasks and relieve the burden. A select few were elevated to coordinate the reaping when death cannot be distracted. These coordinators manage the countless number of reapers assigned to harvest new souls - if that is what you wish to call them. The link between a reaper and Death ensures the abilities are not exploited.
My reapers are still assisting chroniclers with the process of story creation. They are sharing secrets from the souls they have reaped and these stories will come to life soon as lessons to contemplate. These tomes of emergence will be available through Bushland Castle Productions.
