Theme Brief:
Otherworldly Origins
Overview
The world we know is about to change forever. Hidden for centuries—or even millennia—otherworldly creatures such as vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, gnomes, and more finally step into the light. Whether by choice, accident, or necessity, their existence can no longer be denied. Otherworldly Emergence explores the emotional, societal, and fantastical consequences of this revelation.
Each novella will tell a unique story set during this critical period of emergence, offering readers different perspectives and settings while connecting to the shared theme.
Tone & Style
-
Fantasy grounded in reality (Urban Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, or Mythic/Modern Fantasy tones welcome).
-
A sense of wonder, awe, tension, and transformation.
-
Can be dark, hopeful, adventurous, or mysterious—just stay true to the idea that the world is changing forever.
-
Character-driven narratives are highly encouraged.
Setting
-
Modern-day Earth is the default backdrop (think cities, towns, rural areas, isolated regions).
-
Feel free to choose any location worldwide—diverse settings are highly encouraged!
-
A consistent "emergence event" should have occurred, whether it’s sudden (news break) or gradual (creatures slowly revealing themselves).
Creatures
-
Vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, gnomes, fae, elementals, shadow beings, and other mythological or original beings.
-
Authors can invent new creatures, but they should feel believable and rooted in folklore or imaginative realism.
-
Creatures can be allies, enemies, or complicated figures.
Story Must-Includes
-
Some form of discovery or reveal moment.
-
Impact on at least one human or community.
-
Exploration of coexistence, conflict, or chaos.
-
Emotional stakes: Fear, awe, acceptance, rebellion, worship, prejudice, etc.
Length & Structure
-
Word Count: 25,000 – 50,000 words.
-
Standalone novellas that can be enjoyed individually, but small thematic Easter eggs linking the series are encouraged (e.g., mentions of a major event, organization, viral news, or rumors).
Series Continuity Guidelines
-
There is no single "main character" across novellas—each is its own world within the shared emergence event.
-
Keep massive world-altering events (like entire continents sinking) limited or coordinate with the publisher if you want to go big.
-
Authors are encouraged to nod to global impacts (news clips, rumors, social media reactions) to create a larger connected world feel.
Important Dates
-
Pitch Submission Deadline: 27th of July 2025
-
Manuscript Delivery Date: Open to negotiation - Desire 10th of October 2025
-
Series Launch Goal: TBA
